LECCO The setting of Manzoni's “The Bethroted”, Lecco boasts pre-Roman origins and it overlooks the Lake. In this wonderful town you can visit the ancient Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Vittoria, commemorating the soldiers who died during the First World War, Musei Civici and Villa Manzoni, collecting the objects which belonged to the great Italian writer who lived there from 1811 to 1818. ARGEGNO A city of Roman origins, the ancient village of Argegno is framed by the beauty and colours of the lake: in order to discover it, all you have to do is take a walk in the old town with its ancient buildings, such as the Oratorio and the church of Trinità. From Argegno you can take a cable car up to Pigra, located on a plateau where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Larian valleys. |

LENNO In Lenno don't forget to visit the 18th-century Villa Balbianello, one of the most beautiful villas in this area . This villa is also famous for having been one of the sets of the latest films of the Star Wars series (it was used as the dwelling place of queen Amidala, Luke Skywalker's mother). Do not miss some monuments in the old town: the Church of Santo Stefano, going back to the 11th century, and the Romanesque Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the better preserved buildings dating back to that time. |

MENAGGIO Menaggio is an excellent starting point for lovers of excursions: from here in fact you can reach the refuge by the same name, choose among many different and interesting trekking routes and visit the Menaggio Castle, dating back to the 10th century on a hill overlooking the village and the Church of San Carlo. |

DONGO Dongo is a very small village, but it is a real gem. The most interesting monument is the central Palazzo Manzi, dating back to the 19th century and the seat of the Town Hall. Among the sacred architectures there are the Church of Santo Stefano, rebuilt in the 18th century on the ruins of a Romanesque temple and the sanctuary of "Madonna delle Lacrime", built by Maestri Comacini. |
