Curiosities
There are different theories about the origins of the term "Monferrato". Some say it derives from the Latin Mons Ferax, a definition tied to the fertility of the soil, while other people call into question several fascinating Medieval legends, one of which wants the name deriving from the word "brick" and "shod" in honor of a squire that shod his horse with a brick, having no other materials.
Specialies: canavese soup, tomatoes stuffed with rice, eel "alla piemontese"
Wines: Barbera d'Asti, Grignolino d'Asti, Barbera del Monferrato

CUNEO
Tourists visiting Cuneo, besides finding several restaurants serving local cuisine, can take a walk in the fine old town, going through places like Contrada Mondovì, thinking they have gone back in time because of the medieval buildings that rise along it. Among other interesting places around town we should mention Piazza Galimberti, an extremely characteristic spot due to the simultaneous presence of houses and arcades in the neoclassical style.

ASTI
The city of Asti was the see of a Lombard dukedom and a fundamental junction for trade in the 12th and 13th centuries. Today its name is connected to the popular sparkling wine, to the historical Palio in honor of the patron saint San Secondo and to the Rioni (districts) into which the town is divided ("of noblemen" and "of suburbs") Among the most interesting buildings we mention the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a wonderful instance of sacred Gothic architecture in Piedmont and Palazzo Ottolenghi, in which you can admire some beautiful local heraldic symbols.
