The little park of Malavilla is well-situated within the world of the old and traditional Sicilian masseria, where it lies historically immersed within an unspoiled natural countryside consisting of white, hand-cut dry stonewalls bordering the various fields punctuated with olive and carob trees -- at a distance of approximately 3 km from Santa Croce Camerina, 8 km from the sea and 14 km from Ragusa.
Malavilla was first re-structured in the early nineties when its stables were converted into a comfortable country house. Recently the large ba has also been completely re-built and converted into two apartments, each with its own veranda with a full view of the park grounds and of the valley and sea beyond.
The original body of the Malavilla country house and grounds is composed of a large courtyard (constructed with the local limestone) which separates the primary building, inhabited by the owners of the property, from the building which was once used for the preparing of cheeses and ricotta. This second building, now called "Casa di Gina", was later re-structured and transformed into a guest house, a house which is well-furnished, with a matrimonial bedroom (room with one double bed), a bedroom with two beds, a living room, bathroom with shower, and a spacious, well-supplied kitchen.
Also at our guests' disposal , is a wide "loggia" (open stone porch with roof), ideal for lunching during the hotter hours of the day. A little limestone path connects the courtyard to the two apartments recently created from the restructuring of the barn:"Casa di Grazia" and "Casa di Giovanni".
Each of these apartments is composed of a matrimonial bedroom (with double bed), a bathroom with shower and a living room with couch bed and a well-furnished kitchen area. As indicated previously: both apartments are provided with a wide terrace, from which one can enjoy magnificent sunsets over the sea as well as across the hills laden with olive and almond trees.
All the houses at our guests' disposal are furnished with air-conditioning units (both hot and cold), TV, washing machine, wireless connection to the internet, barbecue, wood stove, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, ping-pong table, beach umbrella and chairs.
In the small park created by the abundant English lawn within which the houses of Malavilla are now inserted, roses, geraniums, jasmines and various flowering bushes abound, along with a number of trees of varied lineage which seemingly take on the role of sentinels overlooking the great lawn -- a numerous family of stocky Sicilian palm trees in particular -- as well as various long-trunked trees (jacarandas, cypress trees, pine trees and others).
And, just a bit further on, under a splendidly shapely Africant tree which we particularly love -- a great tree, with camel-colored trunk and limbs with a headfull of dark green leaves that make a great shade-- there lies a longish pool with aquatic plants floating on its waters to the gentle sounds of the little fountain that nourishes them, and where, when seated there around the tree and its trickling pool of a late afternoon or evening, there may be found a rather special sort of peace...
We hope that the few indications we have provided above have given you a little idea as to why we are sincerely convinced that Malavilla is the ideal place for a real relaxation, enjoying the silence and tranquility of the refreshingly soft-breezed gentle summer evenings in our little park grounds.
