THE FARM AND THE MADONIE


Fattoria Pianetti is an eighteen-century farmhouse nestled amongst century-old oak trees and offers breathtaking views of Palermo and the surrounding mountains.


Fields, with cows and goats grazing nearby, surround the farmhouse. It is located within the Madonie National Park, 700 meters above sea level, 14 km from the seaside resort of Cefalù, and one hour from Palermo by car or train.





Centrally located near some of Sicily’s most important and historic sites, Fattoria Pianetti provides the ideal hub for day excursions. Explore ancient Agrigento, the Piazza Amerina – with its famous Roman villa, Segesta -- with some of the most notable Greek temples in the Mediterranean, the hilltop medieval city of Erice, San Vito Lo Capo, and still be back in time for dinner!


Just a few kilometers inland gain fascinating insight into local culture by exploring some of Sicily’s most charming medieval villages like Ganci, Castelbuono, Polizzi and in the summer join in the festivities as the village of Petralia celebrates its Saint’s day, complete with holy processions.





Fattoria Pianetti’s is steeped history and tradition. It has been in the Lanza family since the early 900’s and the family takes pride in its history and preservation.


The botanist Domenico Lanza, who discovered the Abies Nebrodensis, built the stunning gardens surrounding the property.


Today, the Lanza family’s continuous passion for nature ensure the preservation of the property’s exceptional variety of trees and plants including: the Pero Mandorlino tree and a majestic 500 year old oak tree. These trees are part of the route of the monumental tress mentioned by Madonie Park.








THE BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS AND THE RESTAURANT


Fattoria Pianetti is a biological farm.


Our cheeses are made of cow, goat and sheep's milk.


In particular: milk, fresh ricotta cheese, fresh or aged pecorino cheese, caciocavallo, ricotta salata can be purchased directly in the company from March to September.


The restaurant serves typical Sicilian food with locally grown ingredients.








THE STRUCTURE AND THE ROOMS


The outbuildings, originally used for the production of cheese, have now been converted into holiday cottages.


The simple but cozy rooms have their own bathrooms and are situated a stone’s throw away from the communal dining room.


We have 10 rooms with double beds and in some rooms there is the possibility of adding another single bed.


Each room features large windows overlooking the patio next to the restaurant.


There is also an apartment with a private bathroom and kitchen that can accommodate up to 4 people.


There are two single rooms and a room with a bathroom for the handicapped.








ACTIVITIES AND GROUPS OF MEDITATION


Fattoria Pianetti offers the ideal location for activities such a bird watching and nature walks, meditation, self-healing and bio-energetics.


Daily boat trips from Cefalù to the Aeolian Islands are available from July -August.


From April - July and in September and October we organize special weekends dedicated to the introduction of Buddhist or Sufi meditation techniques.


We also offer a variety of workshops, ranging from three to six days, in which participants create, through painting, dance, massage and breathing, a space and an inner silence.








FOLKLORE AND TRADITIONS


GANGI: Festival of the spike


In the second week of August, experience local folklore and traditions by joining the local community as they celebrate the Festival of the Spike. There is a procession during which six big loaves of bread, weighing 12 kilos each, are blessed and the pieces are shared with believers. There is also a parade of oxen drawn carts carrying young girls dress dressed in white offering pomegranates to spectators.
