The current Casina dei Preti farmhouse is the result of several phases of development. The ground floor dates back to the early 1700s and originally served the ancient agricultural dwelling. The first floor was added in 1860 at the behest of the owners of that era, the priests Saverio and Aloysio Lorusso. In 1873, they enriched the settlement with a small chapel – still consecrated today – dedicated to the SS. Maria delle Grazie. Not far from the main structure stands a small shrine (known as "caffeamus", a place of rest and prayer) accessible through a pergola supported by period columns. Finally, alongside the main building, a stable was constructed in the early 1900s, which now houses our restaurant room and, on the upper floor, some of our guest rooms. All around extends the agricultural estate with charming Italian and English gardens.
As hosts of our country home we take pleasure and care in meeting the tastes and needs of our clients by offering the typical cuisine of the Apulia region. Our fresh local produce arrives on a daily basis from the "Morello " farm to create our most popular dishes, such as eggplant parmesan, vegetable flans, succulent old-fashioned recipes using fresh zucchini, peppers and eggplant, thick "focaccia " bread, and the classic regional "panzerotti " (small pockets of fried or oven-baked dough filled with tomato and mozzarella, meat or onion), as well as a variety of delicious desserts that ado the breakfast buffet and complete the dinner menus, all prepared under the pergola adjacent to the dining room. During their stay our guests can enjoy reading or just relaxing in a large garden composed of independent areas: A small pine forest adjacent to a centuries ' old threshing floor enclosed in lush greenery; A courtyard where guests can hold their own picnics. Two outdoor swimming pools (for adults and children, respectively), built entirely in stone, feature relaxing whirlpools and delightful, refreshing waterfalls where guests can enjoy the therapeutic whirling waters and tonic message of the falls (the adult pool is 120 cm to 170 cm deep/4 feet to 5.5 feet deep, while the children 's pool is 50 cm/1.6 feet deep). Surrounding the pool area is a lush green lawn equipped with lounge chairs offering a relaxing and cool ambiance among the olive trees. The country home is nestled in a countryside where guests can take leisurely long walks, visit the ancient little church of St. Catherine, the lake of St. Vitus, and rent bicycles to explore the area in search of old manor farms, lakes, small ancient rupestrian (cave) churches, as well as other local attractions. Cooking lessons are offered to those who wish to lea how to prepare some of the hostess ' most typical regional dishes. All our rooms offer comfortable solutions and are well furnished with period furniture, a bathroom with shower, refrigerator, television, hairdryer, and ceiling fan; some are equipped with a kitchen corner.
