It would be really hard to establish a ranking of the most beautiful Italian villages… they are rich in history, traditions and breathtaking scenery, and represent in a most authentic way the huge heritage of our regions. Here are some villages to discover with a break on a farm!
1) ASOLO
Also known as the town of a hundred horizons, Asolo, nestled in the hills, houses one of the most charming landscapes of our country, enclosed by ancient walls and dominated by the Rocca. The village, which has a long history, also houses the Castle of Queen Cornaro and the Cathedral with paintings by Lorenzo Lotto and Jacopo da Ponte. Several routes and nature trails open up in the surrounding hills, dotted with vineyards that produce the prestigious Prosecco Veneto.
Recommended: Farmhouse Demetra, a green oasis dedicated to organic farming, which provides guests with fine wines from produced on the farm.
2) CORCIANO
Visiting Corciano means plunging into a medieval atmosphere, with its narrow alleys, the ancient castle and the fortifications that surround the old town in the panorama of the Umbrian hills. Porta Santa Maria and Porta San Francesco give access to the village through the thick walls, leading to a maze of narrow streets, stone houses, flowered balconies and steep stairways. Visit the church of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses the precious Assumption by Perugino, and take a stroll along the panoramic boulevard known as the path of the almond trees.
Recommended: Farmhouse Longetti, created from the renovation of an old colonial stone house, among vineyards, woods and olive groves. Honey, olive oil and salami are products not to be missed.
3) CEFALÙ
Included in the Madonie Natural Park and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Cefalù traces its origins to the 5th century BC as a Greek colony. Overlooking the sea, it retains some splendid monuments such as the Cathedral which features a real fusion of styles, with Norman, Arab and Byzantine elements. The Rock is striking, a limestone promontory overlooking the coast, with the remains of the castle and the watchtower; a beautiful view can be enjoyed from Porta Marina, which used to give access to the town and overlooking the colorful fishing district.
Recommended: Farmhouse Casa Margaret, among fertile hills that slope gently down to the sea, surrounded by olive trees, which produce high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
