Plans for the weekend? Today we suggest a route in the province of Siena, a great romantic destination. The city that has charmed many with its medieval atmosphere, nestled among the rolling hills of Chianti, Val d’Elsa and Crete Senesi. A relaxing break which includes the classic stages of Piazza del Campo, every summer the hugely popular location for the Palio, which sees the competition of city districts, the imposing cathedral of the year 1100, the soaring Torre del Mangia and the National Art Gallery in the beautiful Palazzo Buonsignori. And then nearby we find the village of San Gimignano with its towers, Volterra famous for its alabaster, Pienza and the ancient Abbey of San Galgano, as well as excellent spa resorts Saturnia and Bagno Vignoni.
1) Casole d’Elsa
The Country Holiday House Ripostena is located in the heart of Montagnola, an area of great natural value.
The old village is surrounded by hills that form Val d’Elsa and from its terraces you can see the towers of San Gimignano, and in the distance the walls of Volterra. Guests have access to the impressive stone swimming pool, a small whirlpool and massage with personalized treatments and yoga classes. The apartments are the result of careful restoration. The territory is rich in forests of oak and chestnut trees inhabited by deer, foxes, porcupines, squirrels and many species of migratory birds. The area features hidden monasteries and picturesque churches to discover along the ancient Via Francigena.
2) Monteriggioni
The Farmhouse Tre Madonne is an ancient Tuscan farmhouse, lovingly restored, leaving the sight of the lived stones, bricks and wood trim. Immersed in the green of Montagnola the property is located in the historic medieval town of Monteriggioni, in the middle of an area full of interesting places to visit.
Guests have access to a large pool, barbecue and pizza oven. The hotel offers accommodation in two independent cottages, the result of the adaptation of old barns, and four lovely apartments created from the main house, where the rooms are spacious, furnished with the local craft traditions.
