The Tuscan-Emilian Apennines are the northernmost part of the Apennines, and geopolitically they include part of the province of Bologna and of Tuscany (province of Massa-Carrara, Prato, Lucca and Pistoia).

From the historical and artistic point of view of, this portion of the Apennines is one of the most interesting places of central Italy. In the part belonging to Tuscany it is possible to find the Lunigiana and Garfagnana, two areas that have played aprimary role in the definition of some important events.

In Garfagnana (province of Lucca) for instance it is possible to visit the Path of Ariosto, an itinerary surrounded by woods dedicated to the great writer who lived on site from 1522 to 1525 as a governor on behalf of the Este Family.

Other important stops for those who would like to visit these places are the town of Pontremoli, famous for testaroli and extremely attractive from the point of view of architecture, and Zeri, a charming medieval village in the province of Massa, lost among beautiful forests.
