The best way to discover the world of the farm houses is surely the testimony of those who work in a farm house.
We interviewed Roberto, the owner of “La Scentella” who told us the story of its structure.
The farm house “La Scentella” is situated in Petritoli, charming town of Marche, located in the beautiful Valley of the Aso, which connects the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea. The old farmhouse is surrounded by vineyards, orchards in an area studded of small medieval villages.
When did you start the activity?
I decided to open the farm house in 2006.
Why did you decide to open a farm house?
The farm house was born thanks to my passion for the countryside and for this reason I decided to restructure a rural house and cultivate the land of 7 acres with cherry, walnut, oak, olive trees, rosemary, lavender and vines. Initially the idea was to open a farm then, thanks to the advices of a friend I decided to support this activity with that of welcome and to create a familiar atmosphere so that the guests feel welcomed not by a touristic structure but by a territory.
Did you live in Petritoli before?
No, before I had lived 30 km far from Petritoli, than I transferred here to follow my activity.
Which typical products it is possible to taste in your farm house?
At “La Scentella”, guests can not only taste but also assist to the production of lavender honey, of essential oils of lavender and rosemary and of the wines “Cinque Rosso” and “Bianco di Carlino”, called like this in honor to the friends that help me in the farm house.
Which others activities do you do?
I always try to involve the guests in the activities of the company such us the gathering of herbs during which I teach to recognize them and to prepare tasteful dishes to enjoy in company and picking blackberries, elderberries, black and red currant, for preparing delicious jams. I accompanies the guests to explore the territory and to visit the typical companies in the area. Moreover, I organized “Literary dinners”, real meetings about the poor peasant cuisine of Fermo, during which a character reads a short story inspired by the main course of the menu, in which participate also my family and my friends. Finally, in my free time, I organize events to promote Petritoli, its history, its people and its traditions.
Which is your greatest satisfaction about your activity?
The greatest satisfaction is surely the relationship established with the guests that I welcome in a familiar atmosphere; in fact, not only the family of the owner but also the friends, share moments with them.
