Carnevale di VeneziaIf Venice is considered to be a mysterious city it is even more fascinating during the Carnival, even now that 900 years have passed from the first document that refers to this famous festival.
The first testimony, in fact, dates back to 1094, under the doge Vitale Falier, in a document that speaks of public entertainments during the days preceding the Lent, but the official act that declares the Carnival a public holiday is of the year 1296.

The atmosphere of the Venetian Carnival is magic also thanks to the use of wonderful masks, tradition due to the illusion, given by the Venetian oligarchy to the lower classes, to become, for a short period of the year, similar to the powerful and rich people; a useful way, therefore, to control social tensions.

In the narrow streets of this enchanting city for ten days there is a continuous representation of theatrical playfulness, all in costume to celebrate the charm of a world made of balls, jokes, exclusive galas and romantic dates.

The appointment with the Venice Carnival 2012 begins on the 4th February and lasts until the 21th  February;  also this year there will be a lot of events:  from the Feast of the Maries and  the competition for the best mask of the Carnival 2012, to the performances in St. Mark’s Square and the famous Flight of the Angel.
