Running out of ideas on how to spend the Italian Ferragosto holiday on August 15th? Here are some suggestions for a day in the countryside, relaxing at the swimming pool in a breathtaking scenery and discovering the flavors of the tradition, like no other but our beautiful farmhouses can do!
1) An ancient seventeenth-century mill is now a Farmhouse in Umbria
It is an old seventeenth-century mill that accommodates the sophisticated Farmhouse Poggiomanente, a Villa hotel near the medieval town of Gubbio, in Umbria. Great views of the countryside open up from the finely decorated standard and superior rooms, and the beautiful pool for a relaxing plunge,
which is accompanied by the new SPA welcoming guests in an atmosphere of well-being. Don’t miss the traditional Umbrian dishes at Restaurant Poggiomanente, set in the former seventeenth century cellar and embellished with a veranda overlooking the garden. From the farm you can reach some of the most well-known towns such as Città di Castello, Umbertide, Gubbio, Spello and Perugia, in the green setting of the Tiber Valley, with a myriad of castles, abbeys and churches to be discovered.
2) In Tuscany, a dip in the pool between the hills and medieval towns
In Castelfiorentino, in the heart of Tuscany, the land of the ancient Etruscans, in a great historical, artistic and natural setting along the Via Francigena, lies the Farmhouse Le Valli, nestled in the green hills among cypresses, vineyards, olive trees and wheat fields.
A wide swimming pool with a sun park is ideal for relaxation, and there are four apartments each with its own private garden. Do not miss the excellent farm produce, such as wine, olive oil, honey, grappa and vin santo. Nearby there are some wonderful places not to be missed: Certaldo, the birthplace of Boccaccio with its medieval streets, San Gimignano and its towers, and San Miniato, renowned worldwide for its white truffles. And then Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo, and Artimino, with interesting archaeological Etruscan settlements.
3) A charming rural atmosphere in the countryside of Lazio
On the hills of Lazio, just 20 km from Rieti, we find the Farmhouse Santa Giusta, housed in a finely restored nineteenth-century farmhouse: the conservation works have kept unchanged the evocative atmosphere of the past,
thanks to the furnishings of the guest rooms including vintage furniture, partially recovered from the restoration of the building to remember the farmers who inhabited this rural place. The restaurant is housed in what was once the old barn, with wooden beams and original furniture. On the day of Ferragosto a special menu has been designed. There is also a bowling alley and a small gym, as well as bicycles for beautiful rides. In the vicinity you will find the Farfa Abbey, a number of Franciscan sanctuaries, the Castle of Rocca Sinibalda, the Salto Lake, the natural thermal baths of Cotilia and the Marmore Waterfalls.
