Untouched nature, a countryside rich in nuances and aromas, a landscape that ranges from rugged hills to the blue Mediterranean make Sicily an ideal destination for unforgettable holidays, in contact with the most authentic traditions, preserved and carried forward by many beautiful Farmhouses.
1) Educational workshops with breathtaking sea views of Taormina
We are in Sant’Alfio, a town in the province of Catania rich in landscapes, architectural and cultural highlights, with a wonderful view that extends to Mount Etna and the sea. The Farmhouse Dolcetna, composed of three independent houses, is an ideal destination to discover activities in contact with nature:
different learning paths into the fascinating world of beekeeping, tasting of honey, olive oil, wine and local products, and hiking with bicycles available. Several customized workshops are there to discover the activities of honey extraction, aalso for children, as well as courses on bakery, the local aromatic plants, dried fruit, and wine production. The farm was born in 1980 and now has over a thousand hives to produce a great variety of honey: orange, lemon, eucalyptus, thyme, chestnut; honey creams with strawberry, hazelnut, pistachio; dried fruit and pistachios in honey; pollen, propolis and royal jelly with their beneficial properties.
2) Culinary Traditions and cultural events on the slopes of Etna
We remain in Sant’Alfio, in the stunning panorama of the slopes of Etna at 700 meters above sea level, from where you can admire the sea and the beautiful fortress of Taormina. Here is the Organic Farmhouse Case Perrotta, with ten comfortable rooms
decorated in Sicilian style. The Bed and Breakfastservice is accompanied by a high-quality cuisine guaranteed by twenty-year experience, respectful of the tradition of eastern Sicily, with local produce and Slow Food. The elegant dining rooms, beautiful and rural, are located where once there was a nineteenth-century wine cellar and a convent of Benedictine monks. Case Perrotta is also a renowned farm, famous for the production of fine extra virgin olive oil, the winner of several awards every year, and the delicious and juicy cherry Etna DOP. Organized excursions, painting, photography, crafts, and literary and culinary events are also available for guests.
2) Nordic walking in the wilderness of a nature reserve
Moving to Montallegro, near Agrigento, we meet the Farmhouse Torre Salsa, a farm stretching over 300 hectares from the sea to the hills from where you can enjoy
a spectacular view, inside a WWF Nature Reserve, on a promontory that looks towards Africa, near the beautiful Aragonese Tower, an ancient lookout point. Located on the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the farm is a short distance from the long golden and almost deserted beach. A perfect place for swimming, hiking in the meadows and in the woods, mountain biking, surfing and for Nordic walking on the evocative paths of different degrees of difficulty, immersed in a wild and primitive landscape. Wine, olive oil, organic vegetables can be purchased at the farm by the guests, who have access to picnic tables, barbecue and outdoor oven, as well as a camping area.
