The most magical cities to spend the Carnival? From north to south, here are some of the coolest celebrations in Italy to relive the ancient traditions of this unique festival!
FANO
Not everyone knows that the Fano Carnival is one of the oldest in Italy, dating back to the year 1347. The float parade is characterized by the so-called “getto”, a shower of candy and sweets that are launched over the viewers to the delight of the little ones!
Recommended: Farmhouse Monte Giove, which offers accommodation in three separate outbuildings of an ancient aristocratic villa inside an estate of 10 hectares with olive trees grown organically, a short distance from the sea.
VIAREGGIO
The floats of Viareggio are perhaps the most beautiful in Italy, thanks to the skill of a great team of papier- mâché masters who create real works of art … don’t miss out!
Recommended: Countryside Holiday House La Ventura For Holidays, surrounded by a large garden in the heart of Versilia. Guests are welcomed in three comfortable and finely decorated houses in rustic style, in a strategic position to visit the nearby attractions.
PUTIGNANO
The Apulian town of Putignano is no exception in the sumptuousness of floats and papier-mâché masks, made in the famous “Factory of the Paper Giants”, turning the town into an open-air theater!
Recommended: Masseria Chicco Rizzo, obtained from the beautiful eighteenth-century structure of the typical farms near Lecce. The charming architecture fits with the rural landscape that surrounds it, while the restaurant offers a variety of organic and natural dishes.
VENICE
The spectacular setting of the lagoon city is always a good reason to visit it in the days of Carnival, when eighteenth-century costumes and lavish masks liven up the streets, creating a unique and charming atmosphere.
Recommended: Farmhouse Casanovaresort, surrounded by the lagoon of Caorle – Bibione. The facility is inspired by the “Cason”, a typical construction of the Venetian lagoon
that was once used by fishermen, offering accommodation in 6 wooden bungalows with fine furniture for a stay that combines nature, peacefulness and modernity.
ORISTANO
A really choreographic Carnival takes place in Sardinia, in the town of Oristano, with the famous Sartiglia, a race of medieval origins, which incorporates the ancient traditions of this land, with colorful Spanish-style costumes, echoes of jousting, and rural rituals to propitiate the fertility of the land.
Recommended: Bed and Breakfast Rita e Renzo, recently built, which includes 5 bedrooms with bathroom, ideal for a relaxing and intimate contact with nature. Do not miss the delicious breakfast prepared with local produce, to be enjoyed on the veranda.
