Autumn has come, it’s harvest time, perfect for a food and wine tour to discover the most authentic flavors of our country. There are many farms that have made the cultivation of grapes and production of wine their feature. Here are some of the best facilities offering accommodation alongside the chance to taste some famous labels.
1) Florence, Farmhouse Renai & Monte
The Farmhouse Renai & Monte is located in a wonderful hilly position. The vines grown at the farm are the typical Tuscan varieties: Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia, which together are used for the production of one of the greatest Italian wines, Chianti. In mid-September it’s harvest time and the grapes are used, in small part, for the production of wine for family consumption, and given to the Valvirginio – Cantina Sociale Colli Fiorentini, Montespertoli, where they are transformed modern winemaking techniques, and wine products can be purchased directly from the farm.
2) Cuneo, Farmhouse Le Querce del Vareglio
In the amazing setting of the old farm, the Restaurant of Farmhouse Le Querce del Vareglio offers the best of traditional Piedmontese cuisine, with an elegantly modern twist. New dishes, where simplicity meets with the genuineness of the products of the farm, the traditional fresh pasta, vegetables for side dishes and delicious fruit for dessert. Wine bottles are carefully preserved in the tuff cellar next to the main building, where the temperature and humidity levels are optimal. In addition to numerous labels of local wines from Langhe and Roero, the venue offers the opportunity to taste the wine produced from the grapes of the farm. The farmhouse, surrounded by thirty acres of parkland, still preserves the original architectural elements, symbols, sobriety and simplicity that characterize the area.
3) Trieste, Farmhouse La Madrugada
There are three varieties that Farmhouse La Madrugada grows and makes wine from: Terrano, Vitovska and Malvasia, all strictly indigenous, because they are connected to this land. They are accompanied by extra virgin olive oil, made from Bianchera variety, native to the territory of Trieste. In these places man has patiently cultivated the hard limestone soil, where the vines are grown with hard work, “drinking the scorching heat” and infusing the essence of these fields into grapes: for this reason here wine is great, deriving its essence from the red earth.
