TOP 10 MUST-SEE
1) Alghero
Do not miss the town center, the cathedral and Palazzo Doria; shopping in the quaint shops of coral along the lanes, and the Catalan ramparts.
2) Caves of Neptune
Over 600 steps lead to the Caves, in the picturesque Scala del Cabirol, that goes down through the white rock and to impervious Capo Caccia.
3) Capo dell’Argentiera
Reachable either by boat or by car, the place has a wild charm that bears the traces of its past, with its abandoned silver mines.
4) Lake Baratz
The only natural lake in Sardinia, just a few kilometers from Alghero.
5) Fertilia and Porto Conte
Perfect for a bike trip, this flat area lies between pine and eucalyptus trees, interspersed with bushes of oleander. The dirt road that leads up to Punta Giglio is striking, and you can admire the view of the Gulf of Alghero.
6) Stintino
Do not miss the daily arrival of the fishing boats with the lobsters, the Thursday market and the unique colors of white beach of La Pelosa at sunrise.
7) Il Mare di Fuori
This is the name of the sea out of Punta Falcone, towards Alghero. This stretch of coast, particularly exposed to strong Mistral wind, requires careful navigation and the coast is strewn with rocks.
8) Isola Piana
A flat desert island with a beautiful cove sheltered from the wind, and sandy bottoms. Near the ancient tower the ruins of many Roman ships can still be seen.
9) Cala Capotagliato
A favorite destination for divers due to the presence at depth of 15 meters of a wreck of a cargo ship of the twenties.
10) The salt marshes
Towards Porto Torres just outside Stintino, surpassing the Tonnara where once there were the salt marshes, a long and quiet beach opens, with white sands stolen from La Pelosa by the waves and the wind.
