The largest lake in Italy, a picturesque meeting point of three regions, Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Lombardy, formerly known under the name Benaco: today’s route takes us to Lake Garda, visited each year by millions of tourists in the beautiful towns of Sirmione, Desenzano, Peschiera del Garda, Malcesine and Riva del Garda just to name a few. Here are some Farmhouses for your holiday among wellness, sports and good food.
1) Horse riding and climbing in Tenno, between Lake Garda and the Dolomites
Our itinerary begins in a small hillside town in the province of Trento, Tenno, set among natural highlights such as Lake Tenno, Lake Ledro and the beautiful waterfalls of Varone. Guests of Farmhouse Agritur Tenno Bionatura are housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau structure dating from the early twentieth century, renovated to respect its style. For adults and children they organize coach trips to discover the hidden corners of the green valley, accompanied by gentle horses Spirit and Merlin. Great organic breakfast buffet, and many initiatives for fans of climbing and trekking.
2) Wellness with gym and sauna in Riva del Garda
We go a few miles south, and here we are in Riva del Garda, with its a beautiful fortress overlooking the lake, medieval walls and the Bastion, a Venetian fortress on the slopes of Mount Rocchetta. Here rises the Residence Segattini, with a large swimming pool and children’s pool with whirlpool and sauna. There is a fully equipped Body & Soul gym that offers an ethnic and oriental atmosphere, as well as physiotherapy treatments and a wide range of relaxing and therapeutic massages. For lovers of sport and nature, customers have access to discounts on activities such as canyoning, climbing, nordic walking, water trekking and hiking along the river Sarca.
3) Home cooking and crafts courses in Bedizzole
We are Bedizzole, a village in the province of Brescia, in order to relax at the Farmhouse Sangallo, set in an old colonial farm dating back to the late seventeenth century and surrounded by a large park of olive trees. The restaurant offers typical dishes and specialties: among the first courses, we find homemade tortelloni stuffed with cheese or raw ham, fresh tagliatelle with meat sauce or mushrooms, asparagus and saffron risotto; among the second courses, beef or horse meat; and among the desserts, delicious pies, strudels, and “sbrisolona” cake. Do not miss the weekend courses on May 10-11 and June 14-15, dedicated to the ancient technique of gilding, which was applied in the thirteenth century by Italian painters.
4) Charm residencebetween the woods and good wine in Castion Veronese
We are in the province of Verona, in Castion Veronese, a small town in the municipality of Costermano in the hinterland of Lake Garda, between olive groves and vineyards, a short distance from Bardolino, a land of churches, chapels and ancient villas. Here lies the Farmhouse Val, a recently restored historic mansion, offering a rustic but elegant and welcoming stay. Particular care is put in the decor: all rooms have fine finishes and murals, and enjoy nice views of the surrounding woods or the ancient courtyard with swimming pool. An ideal starting point for walks, a short drive from Gardaland, theZoo and the Botanical Garden in Sigurtà , and sports facilities such as golf clubs and riding stables, the farm offers a rich breakfast and direct sale of agricultural products such as Bardolino wine and olive oil.
