Interview: Discovering the wonders of Puglia at Farmhouse Serragambetta | Agriturismi.it

Here we are in Castellana Grotte, in the province of Bari: here we find the Farmhouse Serragambetta, a structure of ancient origins dating back to 1880, which thanks to an excellent restoration work since 1983 has been a sought-after destination for its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, ideal to enjoy the traditions of Puglia in harmony with nature. Mr. Domenico, the owner, is going to present it to us.

When did you start your business?

The farm was started in 1983 by my family; originally it was our home for the summer holidays, along with the surrounding land, which was then recovered through subsequent renovations.

What are your main products?

We have selected our products to meet the needs of farm: we mainly cultivate olive trees, cherry trees, fruit trees, and garden products. We also have restaurant, with the possibility of half-board service that includes dinner and breakfast.

What distinguishes your productions?

We offer only organic products from our farm, while in the case of meat and dairy products, we turn to organic farms in the area, while wheat and flour come from Altamura and Matera, a few kilometers away.

What activities do you offer to your guests?

Activities mainly related to food, such as lectures and real cooking classes to prepare fresh pasta and bakery products such as bread, pies and cakes. Other activities are related to the activities of organic farming, the cultivation techniques of trees, as well as guided tours and excursions to places of historical and natural interest.

The best memory linked to the guests who have stayed at the Farmhouse?

The fact of maintaining friendly relations even after the departure of our clients: there are several customers from all over the world who come back every year to visit us, and in these cases they also establish a good relationship of familiarity with the locals.

The greatest satisfaction in doing your work?

No doubt the ability to communicate with guests, and feeling that they are happy. Every year we try to do something different, something new: the growth and enrichment of relationships and activities, although challenging, is certainly an extremely gratifying experience.
