Those who want to open a farmhouse in Molise must follow the rules of the Regional Law No. 2 of 24.01.1994, entitled “Provvedimenti a favore dell’agriturismo” which sets the main lines for the protection of rural areas for the workers who want to enhance the cultural and gastronomic potential.

Farmhouse activities are those hospitality activities carried out by farmers (and their families) through the use of their company. The legislation also specifies the need for farm activities not to interfere with the agricultural use of the estates. These activities are part of the seasonal hospitality in open spaces which are also used for campers, administration of food and beverage prepared with the products of the company, and organization of recreational activities.
As regards the premises allocated for the farmhouse,  the law sets out that they may fall between those of the dwellings of the farmer, and all those buildings, located on the estate, are not necessary in order to ensure efficient administration of farming.
Accommodation must not exceed 15 beds for a maximum of 6 rooms, with an exception if the business is carried on by an association (in this case there is a maximum of 15 rooms for a total of 40 beds).
Those who wish to open a farmhouse, must present to the Municipality the request of inclusion into the Regional List and a detailed description of the company and the project, in addition to evidence of compliance with building and health regulations.
