Details:
Located just 40 minutes from Rome, Cerveteri is situated in the territory between the Tyrrhenian Coast, the Mountains of Tolfa and the Bracciano Lake.
The hills of Cerveteri are characterized by tuff land in a dominant position: this strategic location has encouraged the evolution of the Etruscan village Caere. In this area you can still find traces of Etruscan civilization, as many ex-votos, material and architectural decorations, gold foil, but especially necropolis, which with its extension of about 450 hectares is the second only to Egyptian necropolis. The sites are scattered throughout the area but the largest one is that of Banditaccia with thousands of burials, the oldest ones date back to the 9th century B.C. The burial mounds are characterized by a circular tuff structure within a representation of the deceased’s house, complete with a corridor to access to the various rooms.
Since July 2004, the necropolis of Banditaccia, together with that of Monterozzi and Tarquinia, is a World Heritage site of UNESCO.
For those who would like to immerse themselves in the history of these places it is possible to stay at the farm house “I 4 ricci”, situated in the countryside of Caeretane, between olive groves, vineyards and orchards. Take advantage of the offer proposed by the farm house: from the 11th March to the 1st May 2 nights in a Suite with breakfast only 50 euros per person!
