Guesthouse Drésalwoald is the result of the careful refurbishment of an old 19th-century house, whose former ba and hayloft have now been trasformed into cosy rooms. Our family-run house owes its name to the nearby Drésalwoald, one of the tickest and most charming spruce forests in the whole region.
The interior radiates a typicallly alpine atmosphere. Here you will find warm and cosy rooms which were made by reusing the original wood and stone elements. On the ground floor there are the breakfast room and the bar. These two rooms are separated by a simple wooden divider wall that is issued from the ancient wòhngade, that’s to say from the most characteristic part of all Walser houses, where the cattle and human beings usually cohabited. Your day begins with a rich buffet breakfast in a warm room that is heated by one of Gressoney’s typical potstone stoves. You have a wide choice of sweet and salted local specialities. Our bar is the ideal place for snacks, aperitifs and the tasting of local products.
A ski room with ski-boot drier, a car park and an outdoor solarium are at our guests’ disposal.
Nothing has been left to chance: furniture, detail care and architectural style. Enviable is also the location of our house among blooming meadows, providing a superb view of Monte Rosa’s glaciers.
Our guesthouse is situated just a few steps from the village centre away and it is the ideal place for cross-country skiers and golf players, since the over 20-kilometre long cross-country trail (in winter) and the 9-hole golf course (in summer) are located next to our house.
All those who are fond of alpine skiing get here their money’s worth. Both ski resorts “Weissmatten” and “Monterosa Ski”, offering a 180-kilometre long net of well-prepared ski pistes, can easily be reached by ski bus, which stops just 50 metres above our house. Some ski rental shops grant discounts to our guests.
Besides skiing, Gressoney offers many other winter activities: heliskiing, snowshoeing, snow park, ice skating, etc. In summer you can enjoy tennis, climbing, horse riding, mountain biking and hiking.
Guesthouse Drésalwoald is also suitable for all those who like walking, because from here they can take the path leading first to Gressoney-Saint-Jean’s village centre and then to Castle Savoia, the ancient summer residence of Italy’s Queen Margherita, or the so-called “Walser Réng”, a trail that connects Gressoney-Saint-Jean to Gressoney-La-Trinité after stretching through marvellous Walser hamlets. The village centre can be reached by a short walk along Torrent Lys.
Our guests are most welcome. Besides offering them our house, we would like to show them also that microcosm, made of traditions, local culinary specialities, culture and nature, which is characteristic of our valley: that’s our philosophy!
